Mike 0B's 7.3 poor fuel mileage

I'm writing this in reference to Mike OB's member repair write-up he posted in November. I have an '01 Powerstroke Crew-Cab Four wheel drive with auto trans. In this article he says that he's getting poor (11-13 mpg) fuel mileage. I average 12.6 mpg....The reason I'm asking this is a friend of mine just bought a '99 psd that gets 15-16 and he's way rougher on his....I'm starting to wonder if I need to get a scanner and look into mine. Do any of the rest of you with a similar truck get the mileage I'm getting?

Wouldn't hurt to see whats up with your truck if the milage is that low. Do you have the same gear ratio, weight, tire size, driving habits, freeway driving etc.

Yeah, our trucks are pretty much identical except mine is two years newer. As far as driving habits goes, we work together and live fairly close to one another...not too much difference in those areas.

OK, well i would suggest doing a search at the top of the page, just put in mileage, low millage or some such wording and see what comes up. Have you had the codes pulled to see whts stored yet? woulden't hurt to start with those 2 items and go from there. There are quite a few things that can cause bad mileage, it's just a mater of narrowing it down. Good luck, It's bedtime for me hahaha.

Gord.

Dont know how much help this will be, but mine gets about 12.6(winter fuel) w/ my usual weekly driving because its a short drive to work and our trucks get horrible mileage till the motor reaches running temp. With longer commutes, I get about 15 in town, and on long drives I get as good as 21.5.

What would be more efficient? Let your truck warm up for 15 minutes for a 10 mile commute or just drive it and take the cold motor mileage hit?
