I had a problem where I lost all throttle responsiveness for a few seconds and it would slow down then finally pick back up again and that ended up being the pedal position sensor. Seems similar but not exactly whats happening to you.

Oil bakes the protective insulation off and you good get a couple of bare wire to touch every once in a while. Turn key on and have a buddy wiggle all the wiring harnesses under the hood and see if the problem repeats. Plus it is very possible the is a warning that your CPS (Cam Positioning Sensor) is getting ready to die. See if oil has been leaking on it too. I would replace it if you haven't already done so. In the recall of that sensor.
Yea I figured it was electrical SOMEWHERE.
I'd already had the CPS replaced in the recall. Before that, it would just die or almost die then come back completely randomly. Did it sitting still before with no warning lights or anything. Just dead. That's why I think it may be a connection to the computer.

Did it also bring up all the warning lights or just lose gas then come back?

You can get a can of that electronic spray cleaner from Radio Shack. The kind that leaves no residue and clean all the connectors with that. Man I hate trying to find electrical problems. It's easier to find the needle in the haystack!!

I have just recently started having this problem as well and it is also intermittent. It really just started happening a few days after I installed my tw chip. Have you found the cause or fixed this yet?

No I haven't found it. Does yours happen when you hit a really hard bump?
Whatever causes it, I'll bet that the PCM just isn't secured fully.

No, mine just randomly does it, it has no connection with hitting bumps. I also have notice when I am waiting for the glow plugs to warm up it will reboot before I even start the truck.

If it happened only once you removed your to put in the chip then that's where the problem is

This sounds like a poor connection of the main power supply wire that runs from the starter solenoid across the core support to the under hood fuse and relay box. With it running start wiggling and pulling on that wire harness and see if it tries to die, pay extra attrition to the fusible link at the starter solenoid.

Next though is a poor ground in the PCM harness, try adding a ground to the PCM.
