Need help with center console installation
I am replacing the folding center seat in my truck with a center console. The console came with the mounting bolts (4) but my truck body did not have the threaded holes the bolts go into. In stead are octogon shaped holes that take whatever type of hardware goes in it.
I went to ford and special ordered the mounting "rivits" and nuts and when I went to install them I think they are the wrong ones. The rivits are round and they go into the hole and when you tighten the nut onto it the rivit is supposed to spread out under the truck body locking into place. The problem I have is the rivit just spins, obviously because the hole is octogon shape and the rivit is round. Anyone ever do this swap before and have to install new hardware? I asked for hardware for a '99, are other years different? I think the console came out of an '02 Any help is appreciated, Thanks! |

Holly smokes guys thanks for all the replies, I surely will have it figured out now! LOL
![]() Anyway the hardware kit was not the right one and instead of wasting time I actually remembered that I posess some good mechanical ability and inginuity. I just went to the hardware store and got some 1/4" bolts washers, lock washers and stop nuts. The two front holes went all the way through but the two backs I had to drill out. I drilled them out and just bolted the console in with the bolt head on top with a washer and a washer, lock washer and stop nut under the truck. Easy fix and no need for the $30+ dollars I wasted getting the factory hardware special ordered!

That was a unique query you posted...probably the first one on this forum to do this.

I couldn't understand why the holes in the body were hex, and the mounting rivits were round. I thought they would grab, but they didn't work. I even tried holding the rivit at the top with a pair of vise grips and turning the nut to spread out the mounting flange and no dice, it might have worked if I had air tools, but no such luck.
