Question Audio ??

Well I have a 99 F-250 Crew cab and I want to add on 2 subs and a 1000 watt amp, my question is where is the best place to mount the amp so that it does not get over heated while running? I was thinking of under the back seat but not to sure of the air flow down there. Second question how are you guys running power to the amp and to the subs? This will be my first time tearing into my trucks interior and I don’t want to mess it up.

I think the subs are either going to be 10” or 12” depending on the box size that I can fit behind the back seat.

i dont know about where you should mount your amp...but as far as power...it would be really easy to bring it down the drivers side floor under the trim.....the pieces you step on pop strait up.....the kick panel under the drives dash either pulls out at the front or it has a push pin......then it pulls strait back......you could just fish it through the short section of pillar trim and get wires there easily.......Marc

I mounted my amp under the back seat, no overheating issues. I brought my power lead from the battery through the firewall and the passenger kick panel and door sill.

It all depends on what brand amp and if it has good heat sinks built in. I had a 500 watt MTX that would overheat even with a fan blowing on it just because it was a horrible design. I had a 1000 memphis that you could not overheat if you tried. MOST amps will be very safe under your back seat. There is a caution though. If you buy a really cheap amplifier than watch out because they will catch fire at the fuse holder. I do not know why, I am just guessing bad design or cheap parts but i have seen it happen several times. If you really want a 1000 watt amp I would say the memphis is a good choice. I am just curious how you will get enough air space under the rear seat of the truck.

I have my amp under my back seat, never had an issue, even on the hottest days of the year. I ran my cable like Marc said, only I came through a rubber grommet in the firewall, and behind/under all the trimp pieces....worked out well...
