05 6disc radio in 2001 F350XL

Okay, so I heard this could be done but I noticed some things right off the bat. That 05 radio is taller then the 2001 so I would have to modify the dash and some of the internals to get the radio to fit. Next, I bought a wiring male harness from installer.com for the 05 radio, and the female for the stock 01 harness. Then the idea is to marry the harnesses together. I followed the instructions, and married the wires, and I am not getting any sound. Question is, did the 05 radios without premium sound have an amp installed? I have an F350 XL, and would like to try and make this work.

Please let me know if anyone has done an upgrade like this successfully. Thanks,

Ron

What sound system did you truck have originally? If your truck has a factory amp, it may need to be bypassed to work. Try taking a battery like a AA or 9V, then at the harness, take the leads you think go to each speaker, and rub them on the + and - posts of the battery. If you have the right wires, (and theres nothing in between like a factory amp) the speaker will make a popping or scratching sound. Hope that helps.

Its was just a stock AM/FM casette in a 2001 F350XL Diesel single cab. The new radio is from a 2005, no premium sound (So I assume no amp needs). Good news, I got the audio working but the cd player will not work. I am getting "Player error" when I switch from FM to CD. When I hit load, it says its full, when I hit eject it asks which of the 6 discs, and all the selections just blink and it does nothing. I suspect the player is broken. I am reaching out to the individual I bought it from on this forum to discuss how we should proceed.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks James

I do still have the box and all the shipping info, so if ford can't give me an idea of what's up with it, I'll get you the info ASAP.

Thanks

Ron
