Hello Folks,
I have an early 99 with the "extended cab"? (normal door that closes over the suicide door). Anyhow, the drivers side rear (suicide) door has begun to squeak and rattle whenever I go over even minor bumps etc. When I push out on my main driver's door it goes away until I let off the pressure. I am just wondering if this is something common that many people have encountered and if so, what the easy solution is. I am planning on putting some thin modeling clay around the perimeter in hopes of figuring out where its rubbing... but I am also wondering if its related to the upper catch mechanism having some excessive travel or something... Ideas? |

check the hinges on the doors and also check to see if the lock or locking pin is excessivly warn, if it is then they need to be replaced

that is actually a fairly common problem, try tightening the latches and it may help, the f150's were bad to do that also

Ok -- getting irritated
Well, I spent some time looking at my door catch mechanisms and realized they are designed to have some travel in them, the question I don't know the answer to is of course how much is out of tolerance and thus causing my squeak and rattle.
All of the bolts seem to be tight, will try to get some pictures tonight or tomorrow showing how its all put together, I am hoping someone here can save me some hunting by pointing out where it looks like I have a problem. More later... |

About once a month spray some silicone spray on mine and seems stop the squeak, I had the same problem. Really annoying.

With my truck, (extended cab) the suicide doors dont fully close unless I push them closed with my hand towards the top. Doesnt matter if I slam them from the middle, it just needs a nice little push up towards the top to ensure that it fully closed.

On the CC the front door has a black plastic strip that is held in place with plastic push tabs. Pull this off and put a bead of silicone on the backside and reinstall it. Fixed the squeak and rattle in my truck. I bet the xtra cabs have the same piece.....?

I doubled up on the weather stripping all the way around the front door of mine, that took away the annoying noise, but mine also dont always latch at the top unless I push higher up on the door when closing.
