Overhead Console woes.

I have a 2000 350 CC Lariat, and the overhead console doesn't work - kinda. At night, with the lights on, both of the buttons are illuminated, but the display is not. If you press on the mode button hard for 10 or 15 seconds, the display barely lights enough to make out the numerals in the dark. It appears from cycling through the functions that they all work, it just isn't lit up like it should be. Any ideas?

Mark

Um, yeah, the dimmer works normally, but thanks. On another site I found references to problems with resistors soldered to the electronics in the console, and that resoldering them usually corrects this.

Well, I resoldered the resistors (replacing one), and the displayu came back to life! There is one odd thing, though, and that is that the MPG AVG display reads 14.1 all the time, no matter what you are doing or for how long. Paper computation shows actual mileage adn it is never that low. Hmm...

The overhead console is not very accurate. I would always do my own calculations.

Have you tried reseting your MPG, you hold both buttons in for so long and it will reset to zero, 14.1 might be the all time average if it has never reset...

Everything works on mine except the temperature.. I took it apart to clean up there and I noticed that the left side, one of the terminals as you are looking at the screen looks burnt out... assuming this is the temp, is there a way to fix it, how much does it cost to replace just the screen??

My digital temp. guage in the overhead console does not work, it stays on -40
all the time, I talked to a ford mechanic, he pointed out the outdoor sensor on the drivers side, just behind the grill, could this be the problem, any suggestions would be much appreciated. I have a 2002 lariat 7.3,4x4, crew, one ton dually, auto.
Thanx
