dome light

My dome light does not come on when I open my driver's door but it works with the other 3 door. I know that alot of cars/trucks have a pin switch.
There isn't any pins that I can see. Does any one know how they work?

the door ajar switch is in the door latch. you need to remove the door panel, loosen the 11mm screw that holds the rearward portion of the window run in, take out the three torx 27 screws that hold the latch in, and then twist the switch out of the bottom of the latch, and instillation is the exact opposite. the thing i would wonder about with yours, since this is a normally open switch (no current flow through it when the door is closed) and yours never registers, is a broken wire. 95% of door adjar lights are caused by the switch, but a sticking switch usually keeps the door ajar light on.....since the switch has the plunger extended only for the closed position. in the open position the plunger is retracted.....and if it is sticking, it will stay there and cause the door ajar light to stay on. it is IMPOSSIBLE for the light not to be on with the door open unless the latch has a failed part....or a wire is broken.....at least from all the wiring diagrams on the systems i have looked at......i dont do a ton of door ajar lights, so i could be wrong on this, but this is my understanding of all superduty systems from the few i have worked on and looked at diagrams for.......if you have issues, let me know. most of the time if it is the switch at fault, you can spray about 3/4 of a can of brake clean into the latch without taking anything apart to free up the plunger ball in the switch....hope this helps, and let me know if i can help more.

That answered some of my questions..... Door Ajar light is a real pain lately and it seems to only happen during the rainy months. My F150 did it as well.

common among Fords

Yep, it is true, all the fords I have ever known from cars to trucks have had the door ajar problem. Most people I know just end up taking the dome light out because it gets so bad that it just stays on 24/7. Let me know if y'all get this one figured out!
