Mirror controls

I have a strange problem with my power mirrors. The mirror control switch moves the mirror in the wrong direction. For example, left moves the mirror right, right moves the mirror up, and so on. The mirror does not move down. It is the same for both mirrors, which are towing mirrors. Has anybody experienced this or know what the problem might be? The harness and connector to the switch appears to be intact and in good condition.

Thanks.

I would think it is a bad switch.

I replaced the original switch, which did not move the mirrors at all, with a switch out of a friends truck and then had this problem. I had presumed that the switches from year to year were the same (99-04), but I could be mistaken. I did not want to buy a new switch from ford only to find that the problem was somewhere else.

If you can find a wiring diragram or play with the harness and find which wire does what you might be able to jump the actual connector to see if the mirrors are miving in all directions.

Mines busted too.
up moves up
left moves left
down moves down and left
right moves up and right
Sorry to see I'm not the only one.

I just checked mine out. Right does nothing, up does nothing, left goes left and down, and down goes left and down.

Are these the factory tow mirrors, or the aftermarket. I put aftermarket extending mirrors on mine and had to splice into the power mirror switch, perhaps that was done on yours, and the wires were put in the wrong spots.Or maby your truck had aftermarket mirrors on it and the previous owner put the old ones back on, keeping the aftermarket ones for his new truck. Just a thought, hope it helps.

Lightbulb Might have to bite the bullet

When you mention that one direction moves two directions of the mirror, it tells me the contact pad is shorting out. Same kind of deal on my buddies seat control. He had to replace the switch. I would try to find a switch at a salvage yard or on e-bay.
