Dang door locks

My door locks have a mind of their own; they won't operate with either the fob or switch. I have to use the key to get in, and push the plunger down to lock. I tried cycling the ignition switch until the autolock feature was either activated/deactivated. Sometimes only one will work; othertimes maybe 2 or 3. It never seems to be the same ones. This happened all of a sudden. When I hit the button or fob I can hear the relays energizing, but nothing else happens. Both batteries are good. Any ideas?

O yea I should also tell you this. Its not hard to do at all. the first one took me about 45 minutes to do, but that is because I went slow and over analyzed it all. then the next 3 took 10 minutes each maybe.

Accordng to Scott at Trucks Unlimited the actuators are junk and may need to be replaced frequently.

yes they are junk, but hey you gotta pull them to replace them, so why not take the extra few minutes to see if you can save them before dropping the cash to replace? I think 1 of mine needs to be replaced, but i was able to save 3 of them

I myself don't like aluminum foil as a repair of a electrical part, sounds like a fire waiting to happen, just my opinion. The new actuators are much stronger than the stock ones. I changed all four of mine 2 years ago. Ford really should have recalled these!!

Normally, I would agree. But since these are only 12v and low amperage, it's a simple patch. I tested a new one vs. old repaired unit and couldn't tell a difference in heat. I think I quick cycled the lock about 100 times in 2 minutes. No difference.
