2003 F350 OE Radio Removal

I have a 2003 F350 and it still has the OE 6 disc radio in it. The CD portion does not work and I would like to change it out without paying someone as I believe I can get the radio cheaper than paying someone to install it. Anyways I have the removal tool but when I insert the tool there is no "click" and the tool pulls out when I pull outward to try and remove the radio.

Am I doing something wrong. My neighbor mentioned that the clips that lock the radio in place may be broken. If that is the case is there a way for me to remove the radio without paying someone.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mark

You have to jam those prongs all the way in and pull on the radio itself sometimes. Also you can just pop that part of the dash off it doesn't take much time at all.

I've never had much luck with the prongs. On these trucks just pop out whole piece the surrounds the radio and gauges. Then you can even just use your fingers to push the clips in

It takes a few tries... also you have to pull the U shaped removal tools outward (away from the radio, like you are spreading them) for them to lock (I believe). At least that's what I had to do to my 04. Once they do lock the radio comes right out but like I said took me a few tries to get them to lock.
