Have you calibrated the SWR's?...I'm betting you didn't

edit: nevermind,...I really should read before I type....

BTW- be careful ...you could burn the radio out,..if you transmit too much without it tuned.

In my opinion a basic 40 channel radio I would go with a Uniden 29ltd classic with a K40 or Wilson 1000 antenna.

If you want more then the standard 40 channels then I would go with a RCI2950 or for a little more power RCI 2970 with an 8ft stainless steel antenna.

I had two 2950's one I sold to a member on here. The other is sitting on the shelf as a back up if my RCI6300FT ever dies.

I am running a stainless steel 8ft whip mounted to a spring load mount. I have 1to1 with the engine off. Engine running I have 1.5to1.8. In my opinion no other antenna is better then the big old 8ft stainless steel whip.

Sounds like you have an impedence mismatch and will have to do some tuning.

Best power and clearity you can find for the money.
Thank you at least someone else knows something about cb's people always think walmart and target carry the best cb's

I would run a galaxy with a single wilson 5000 and you will talk for miles and miles. If you run 2 make sure 1 is a dumby because 2 cuts done on your distance of talking with this radio
