CB's

I think I would like The Galaxy 88HL is Galaxy’s mid level SSB radio. I had a Galaxy 6000 years ago and just about loved the thing. It was a talker.
How much power can we put behind a radio in a new pickup. Will it over load the trucks computer?

Just ain't no feeling like that Power Stroke Mobiling..................

I guess it really depends on what you use the thing for, I just wanted a good radio for the big truck and that's why i got the president, but to tell ya the truth I'm not all that impressed, have looked at the galaxie 88's though and think they might be a little better. For general yakin and "bear watchin" I like my 76 better.

lets not get side bands mixed up with upper and lower chanels here, most of the big radios come with upper and lower channels. a radio like a cobra 148gtl has side band channels and they will not match up with a gallexy or connex channels!

I run a connex 4300hp, peaked and tuned and hits 81 watts last time in the shop!!! i also have a 3300 hp that hits 50 watts and a 29 in the wifes car that runs at 27 watts, and no matter what kind of power you have it all comes down to the antenna.
Remember this you can receive with a coat hanger but it takes a real antenna to get out, and thats what seperates the men from the boys!

My self i use k40 antennas, i have 1 24" superflex on my left front cowl. And the wifes car has a k40 magnet mount. IMO the K40 Mag. Mount is the best antenna out there, it is easily adjustable, handles lots of ower, and you can put in the center of your roof where it will work the best with the least interferance.

Also you guys runnig amps i hope you have the power output of you radio turned down or atleats stock because if not you will hurt the radio and the amp, but most of all it will sound like Sh!t unless you have the mic gain turned all the way down!

Happy trucking
Caleb

uppers and lowers

Yes Caleb, I want the uppers and lowers, never cared for side band that much. Most of the ones on the sidebands seamed to think they owned the channel and were to good to talk to anyone just passing through.
I think that may have been a Ranger 3300 that I had about 10 years ago and someone wanted it real bad.

Yeah upper and lowers are better IMO. Me and all my buddies use them around home here, they can reach out further especially with big power and a good antenna!!! I love My connex radios, and will probally will be buying another one in the near future!

Y'all must be makin' the $$$. I'm running a crappy TRS Radio Shack unit I bought for like $40 back in 1997. Still works great for trips with my 3' fiberglass whip I got for like $3 from some random guy. Didn't have to tune it much and I have a good 3-4 mile range on the Hwy. I guess I'm just cheap and don't care too much about being able to talk 150mi up the road. I would like to mount my radio in a better place other than between the seats. Thinking about making a bracket and mounting it in the overhead so I can actually hear it w/out having it stick up b/tween the seats.
