Power door locks

I have a 2000 F250 with power door locks. Lately they have become sluggish.
Sometimes I have to hit them 2 or 3 times to lock or unlock.
They do click every time I hit the button but just don't travel all the way.
Bad control relay and if so, where is it located?
Pete

Same boat

I have the exact same problem on my 99. The passenger door lock hardly ever comes up, even after repeated pushes of the unlock button. Oddly enough, the driver's door always unlocks first time every time but it's the most used of all 4 doors! Both back doors lag a little bit but for the most part they work pretty good. I'm not exactly sure what to do about it...... Ideas?!

I don't think they would carry the solenoid currents all the way thru the button circuit so there must be a control relay.....My first guess is ,it is going bad...
I need to locate it and that may be a problem...

The first thing I would try is cleaning/lubrication of the locking mechanicals especially the selenoid. I can't see a relay going bad from not being used often. They normally go bad when they are heavily used and build up carbon on the contacts.

If it went bad, wouldnt it just NOT work at all? We have the same problem on our 2000, and we have cleaned and greased the locks twice now. No luck.

I have only experienced this once on an Oldsmobile. I replaced the lock solenoid.

I had the same problem, it was the actuator. Located in the door, took me about 1-1/2 - 2 hours and I'm handy. Cost me $58 at Ford. Word has it the old actutors (mine is a 2000 f-350) were known to be trouble, and the new ones are "improved". The new one I got was definetly different, and hopefully better. Search the net and you'll find some how to posts on the particulars of changing it out. There are a few tricks, so to speak.
