Ignition wont turn on superduty. need help asap.

working on a 2000 f350 and we cant get the ignition to turn. the steering wheel is locked and we turned the wheel, changed tilt positions, turned the key and still cant get it to unlock. Is this a common problem and is there a way to fix it without tearing the column apart? any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Got it unlocked, put a pair of pliers on it and took it easy and it turned.
