Gauges

Ok so I've decided to go ahead and get some gauges for my truck. Its an 02 with the transmission temp already in. I guess I just need to get gauges for the boost and EGT's. Any suggestions for what gauges I get??

My suggestion is to never trust the Ford dummy guages. I know in some of the older cars the oil pressure guage would read normal all the way down to somewhere near 5psi. Not good. I have never trusted factory guages. Go ahead and add a trans temp guage to your list.

The factory Trans Gauge is nothing but a dummy light, when it moves up, it maybe too late to catch the problem. I would highly reccomend a full set of Trans, Boost and EGT. A fuel pressure is a nice to have as well.

gauges

if you find a good set let me know. I'm looking into buying a set myself. I just don't know quite what to get other than the boost, exhaust temp and tranny temp gauge.

I really like my autometer phantom's. But I saw the phantom II's in person recently and I really like them a lot more...

I have a set of Four AutoMeter Cobalt Gauges Pyro,Boost,Trans,&D-PIC.
I Am happy with these gauges, They were somewhat easy to install, the boost was tricky, but I got it, If you are going to self install, let me know if you want some tips to make it easier for you than for me.

You should need a 5/16th bit, and 1/8 npt tap for both fittings. My autometer (phantom) boost gauge didn't come with the fitting for the intake elbow on my dodge, but I picked one up at autometer's stand at the dhra. Make sure yours is there cuz you're pretty much screwed without it, I couldn't find anything at lowe's or other places. Where are you going to put your egt probe? Post or pre? the drilling and tapping part is really pretty easy, as well as hooking up the egt probe wires from the probe to the gauge, and the boost pressure line. Just be careful on the boost line, that little ferrule can get turned inside of that nut and actually kink or slice into your boost line. So don't go supertight. I jumped off of some fuses for my power to the egt guage and the lighting for both. Just be sure you hook up the guage power to be on when the truck is on, and the lighthing to come on when you turn your parking/headlights on.....

I currenly have a set of guages from Banks. I know the pyro and boost work, but the tranny guage is worthless. You can read all about it in the tranny problems page.....How are the Auto Meter guages, as far as accuracy and price? I really need a replacement. If the price was right I'd replace all 3.
