OBD connection problems

I have a new stinger OBDII reader which doesn't show connection when I plug it into the socket. Works fine on wife's mercedes diesel but after repeated attempts of plugging and unplugging, even tried slightly bending male ends for better contact, still no go. Anyone seen this problem? I have a early 99 F350 PS and I was trying to figure out check engine light. Thanks for any and all suggestions.. (wondering if contact clearer, if so what brand).
Thanks Ed

Not all OBDII readers work with diesels. Did you check the specs to make sure it supports the truck?
