igition lock question

i believe this is called the tumbler, correct me if i am wrong. but, the black plastic thing, that the key slide into, that you turn to start the truck, is getting sticky/hard to turn. i had to turn it back last night because it stuck into the start position..... there is also a lot of play. it moves up and down and forward and back. will getting a new one help with this or do i need to be looking for a different problem.
