Keyless Entry
My truck has power door locks but it didnt come with the actual remote for keyless entry (truck was bought used). Im not sure if it ever did have a remote, but my question is: If my truck has power locks, does that mean by default that it has the transmitter to "talk" to the remote? Like, can I just go out and get a remote from ford and program it and itll work with my truck?
Truck is an 02 350.. Sorry if its a newb question Thanks! |

IIRC the GEM module comunicates with the remotes. Trucks without keyless are not equipped with the power lock relay box and associated wiring. Different harnesses are used for the two different setups, so it's not a plug-and-play deal either.

Take it to the dealer and they can tell you if it will.

When I bought my truck last month it didn't come with a key fob either. I found out if you cycle your key in the ignition(on and off) so many times and if the locks lock and unlock on their own then you have it. I did this and worked for me, so went and bought a 8 dollar used key fob off ebay and worked like a charm for me. Mine came with instructions to set up the new fob. It was really easy to do and love having it.

From my experience i got my 99 used and tried cycling the keys like everyone says to do, and on like the 5th or 8th time my locks, locked and unlocked. So i got on eBay ordered a key fob and tried to program it with no luck. After hours of getting frustrated I called ford and they did a VIN decode, and they said it didn't come with keyless entry. So just because your locks cycle its not always true, I would call up a ford dealer and give them your vin and then go from there.
