adding aftermarket speakers.

i am looking to replacce the stock speakers in the front with some aftermarket ones, can i just hook up the wires and it will work? i am also wanting to replace the stock rear speakers with a sub box with 2 tweeters, i know i might need an amp for the rear, can i just splice the two rear speaker wires together and hook it up to the box?

You can replace all the speakers you want but ford uses that odd size so unless you get that size you will be cutting. As far as running 2 channels to gether forgetabout it wont work. now if you have a 2 channel amp and a 2 channel sub yes. But you cannot run the left and the right together.

your also gonna have to cut your oem connectors off and splice your own on the front doors. best thing to do is replace all 4 with 5x7 or 6x8's than run a good 500 watt amp to two 10's or two 12's.
im running two 5x7 kenwoods up front and some old jbl's in the rear with two 12 alpine type r's and a jl audio 1000.1 amp. sounds amazing

Yea Kenwood makes for cheap but very good speakers for the Ford stock locations.

You can get 4 speakers for around 80-90 bucks

OR

Speaker Harnesses For 1998-up Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, and Nissan vehicles at Crutchfield.com

Comes free when you buy speakers from Crutchfield.com or (12.99 ea w.out speakers)... along with complete vehicle specific install instructions.

Using those, you dont have to hack up your stock harness.

I have Infinity Kappa 682cf 6x8s all around, two Polk db 1" tweeters, Alpine hu, and two Kicker compVR 12's with a Sony 1300.1 amp. Sounds pretty good. Also have a 1 farad Tsunami cap, helps alot to lessen the load on the battery.

If you want subs, best way to go is to start with an aftermarket head unit, then start to build your system. Leave the rear speakers as speakers. For subs, your gonna need an amp wiring kit (power w.fuse, ground, remote, RCA), but get an aftermarket hu first.
