Few Questions

I have an '01 powerstroke with auto trans. I was having problems with my overdrive button. Pulled the assembly behind the steering wheel off, found a wire broke going into the shift lever. Going to go get one tomorrow. My question is, has anyone tried to put a shift lever from an 04 into an 01? I've noticed the have a much bigger button and work a lot smoother
Next question....I have a prodigy brake controller in this same truck. hooked it up, it comes on but will not detect a trailer. I thought check trailer wiring. It was fine, and to be sure, I went to the trailer dealership and hooked up to three different brand new trailers. Still wouldn't work. They let me test another prodigy to see if mine was bad, did the same thing. Have checked all fuses and relays under the hood. I think I have a wire grounded somewhere between the controller and the plug. Has anyone had this problem and know of a good spot to check for a grounded wire & also, once the wire leaves the harness under the dash, where does it go through the firewall at? Sorry for the long post, just trying to eliminate any other questions....thanks in advance for the help.

Welcome to powerstroke.org, glad to have you here. As far as the shift lever goes, I don't see a problem with that, but wouldn't hurt to check with ford on that just to be on the safe side.
When I put my trailer brake in, I had to remove the original trailer plug on the back of the truck. It was a 6 pole and the RV plug was a 7 pole, I had to add an extra wire to the new plug. Yours may have come with the RV plug already so that may have nothing to do with it. All you can do is double check the wiring until you find the problem. You can get a plug that will check and report the condition of the plug, that will tell you which wires aren't doing what they should be doing. Did you use a harness plug for your controller, or did you wire it in separate.

Hope that helps out some, good luck.

Gord.

I've got a Ford trailer plug that is connected to a harness underneath the bed. I have everything but brakes. I tested it at the plug by connecting the electric brake controller wire to the ground (this completes the circuit) and the controller still wouldn't register. I was just hoping someone knew of a common place where those wires might rub.

The only place I can think of might be at the point of connection for that wire. I connected mine right at the brake switch on the pedal itself, you can trace the wire back and check it for continuity, and if you get nothing, run a new wire. Just a thought.

Welcome to Powerstroke.org

One of out techs had a brake controller problem that I seem to think was similar to what you are describing. I'll send him a pm with a link to this thread... maybe I'm right, and he'll be able to help you.

Trailer brakes.

Yes infact I did have a time with my prodigy but it was all my fault. I had the directions from Tekonsha but didnt read them real close. On top of that my trailer brake fuse was blown. I have since resolved the simple problem I had. Yours sounds a lil more indepth. I reccomend going to the Tekonsha website and downloading the owners manual and wiring schematic. I would link it for ya but cant on this computer. I guess after visual checks if you still want to do it yourself you could start at the back and probe it to check resistance to see if there is a break somewhere.
