Air Intake Heater

I was wondering what everyone thought about removing the air intake heater to install the plug black cloud sells. I live in souther alabama on the gulf coast so the coldest it ever really gets it like 28 or 29 and that is just a handful of mornings during winter. Any thoughts as to why this might be a bad idea or should I do it. Thanks.

really i dont understand how this would gain you much....but the other bad thing about it is even if its not cold enough to use the intake heater, the pcm will still look for it and it may set a dtc for it. ive seen dtc's set for bad air intake heaters when the temps never got below 60 degrees.......it would be something you would just have to try.....this is the only negative thing i can think of.........Marc

So if it was one of those 40 degree mornings and I have removed the air intake heater then can you think of a negative?

From what I understand there are a lot of parameters that have to be met in order for the pcm to turn it on. At those temps you are probably fine. I removed mine long ago and I live in Canada and it gets a lot colder here, haven't had a problem yet. As far as codes being thrown, it'll be a non issue as you remove the wiring from the solenoid except for the blue wire and you are good to. Call Black Cloud they will explain.

I checked out the website and they have a way to keep it from throwing codes. I will try it and see what happens.

the aih has nothing to do with starting.

if you idle it, the engine isn't really warm enough, adn thepossibility of white smoke is there, the pcm throws it on.

some think it could restrict the intake. i'm not convinced.

i replaced mine with threaded pipe converter for 3 bucks, wrapped liberally with teflon tape, and run my boost gauge off it.

i live in the northern lattitudes, currenlty 4 feet of snow outside, and will be something south of zero tonight. when i put it in, i couldn't tell any differnece, ever.

as far as throwing codes, i'd be really shocked if it did. I do not understand how the pcm could know it isn't working.

That was alot of my purpose was to use a plug so I could put my boost guage fitting in that location without having to drill and thread a new hole.

Pro99: Let me know how you like the plug from Black Cloud. I just ordered my gauges and was wanting to do the same thing for my boost reading.
