dp tuner
Hey i have another forum with this same kind of question on it but i am making a new one. Alright i want to get a dp tuner. i was wondering what settings to get i want to keep it cheap so i was goin to go with the 40 hp 80 econ and 140 i was wonering if that will wokr on a truck that is stock other than intake and 5 inch exhaust. i would get hte overboost annihaltor for it to. I iwas wondering if the 140 setting will make much differance in smoke and power wise. i was also wondderin instead of spending the extra money on 80 tow to i was just wondering if 80 econ will still work well for that to. And i typicalling see 15-16 mpg with my super duty what can i expect from the 80 econ setting if you are not beating on the truck.

so the way that i have my truck set up 120 would be the same as 140 with stock injectors curious and would you get the overboost annihaltor. Does the 120 setting goin to blow black smoke when you punch it or just a little puff. I would like it to blow smoke when i get on it. i was just wondering about 40 for pulling 3-4 hundred bushel gravity boxes i pul in the fall. but it has enough power stock to pull them so it dont matter. i dont get on it with 11 ton riding behind me. max speed 25 lol well i mean thats all i dare go.

I think Maintain hit it dead on! Knowing what I know now, that's the set up I'd have, i.e- no 100 setting. 60T is perfect for the occasional hauler, lots of torque and subtle throttle response. With my chip on 80E and cruise control set at a moderate speed, 19MPG is no problem. With your intake and exhaust you'll see better results than I do on 120. Consider having the #1 postion stock and the #5 position No Start. If there is ever a problem with the chip it defaults to position 1. Be advised- you probably will not see any mileage improvement in the first couple weeks because the urge to roll the smoke is nearly irresistible! 60T is nice around town also. 80E is VERY touchy on the throttle which can lead to the efficiency suffering. My thinking is that with smoother acceleration you will see better mileage for city driving. Now that you have the "flip" option, you can always just turn it up when you want to leave that chebby or Dodge at the light. Jody will lead you in the right direction. Unlike a lot of sales type people, he will not BS you to make the sale. So, don't be afraid to make decisions on what he tells you. DP's product and service is top-notch. As always- don't forget the gauges and tranny. Enjoy. |

The 120 setting on my truck blows decent smoke, but nothing like the 140 aggressive does. I'm with most people here, in that the 120 setting feels like it gives the best performance for a mild setup. The 140 seems to be too much for my tranny, but after 189k miles I can understand why. I like the 80 econo for daily driving; its not too sensitive, but still has plenty of go. I have babied mine on 80 econo for an entire tank this winter (mild temps. ~50 F), never got above 2k rpm or 65mph, 95% freeway driving, and got 15.4mpg when I filled up......about the same as always.

thanks guys i appreciate it i think i will go with the 60 80 econ and either 120 or 140. I was also wondering is there an easy way on how to tell if your truck is a late or early 99 i was just curious i was thinking it was a late becuase when i had the stock exhaust on it it had no catylitic converter on it and it has the 3 inch intercooler lines also when i took my pcm off to find the 4 digit code i seen by the fuse box it said the date of the truck build 12/8/98 unless that is for another part what day was the cutoff just curious banks power i read between the 3 inch intercooler lines no catylitic converter mine is a late 99. Also on the website on the internet i read the cutoof is 12/7/98 so that would amke mine a late 99 thanks

I have it but had to get a dual hpop to keep up with it and the stage IIs at WOT, it bellows smoke like a frieght train and quite the kick in the backside too without the BTS hpops you could still make loads of smoke just can't stand on it long.the 120 tune seems to be a more well balanced performance tune just a little FYI

I have the smoke tune as well. It's advertised as 140 HP gain, and it'll definately cover everything in smoke. It's pretty aggressive, and my tranny doesn't seem to like it too well. The 120 race tune is definately a better balanced tune for my truck, but it doesn't smoke quite enough for those annoying aggressive drivers.
