how much to make 99-03 7.3L as quick as a 6.0L

I test drove an 04 CC, 4x4 (4" lift 35" tire) truck last night and it was nice... decent power..... although my avalanche seems a bit faster (stock 2wd).... i know its apples and oranges but still.

Most likely i will pass on the 6.0L engine,

my question is, how much would it take to get the 7.3L PSD to be as quick/quicker than the 04 i test drove last night?

i wont be towing anything big with this truck, if that matter any.

Ok well it will cost you roughly 800 bucks.
my recommendations for a foundation are below.
Gauges, triple set, pyrometer, tranny temp, boost. with A-pillar mount
Intake, anything but K&N, cheap way is to do a DIY set up.
Exhaust, I recommend a good quality 4inch, cheap way stock exahust with no muffler or cat.
Then you need a chip, programmer. I have the TS 6 pos. You can get them new for I think 379.00 or you can find them on E-bay new for about 280.00 Personally I recommend getting it from a distrubutor because it needs to be programmed to your truck.
After you get that stuff done I think you will have a good foundation and with the mods I stated you will get the results your looking for. I have no problem running with 6.0L

I think you spent more than 800 in your list just now. Better figure $1200.00 fer what you listed.
A tuner/programmer for 400.00 +/-
An exhaust system for 400.00 +/-
Guages - I reccomend the Quadzilla Commander for around 340.00
And i would skip the intake, really not needed in my opinion for this setup.

CHenry, I think your wrong, Gauges 190 used price included everything for install, TS-6 pos chip, 379.00 at dpp, exhaust I removed the moffuler cost me 40 bucks at the local exhaust shop, I hate it but K&N fipkit I got it for 210.00 at a local performance store near my house. Total cost is 819.00 You say intake is not needed for this setup so you can minus 210, and that would be 609.00 installed. So yes for about 800 bucks you have a good foundation.

doesn't sound half bad.......

7.3L's tranny's scare me...

6.0L head gasket scare me..... if it was a gas car, i would mind... i replaced several engines/gaskets on those... but diesel seems far more difficult.

i think a tranny is cheaper though, and at least i can remove and reinstall

I was considering the cost of a full new exhaust kit and install. plus a Commander guage.
We are comparing apples and grapes i think, thats the difference. What i listed will cost 1200 or a little less.

With intake, exhaust, programmer is a 7.3L faster than a stock 6.0L or around the same?

you think a diesel engine is difficult to work on i would rather work a a diesel engine compared to a gasser anyday hands down. very easy just give it fuel and keep it maintained and she'll run circles around that gasser. plus yu don't have to change out spark plugs plug wires rotor and cap look at all the varables. once you get your hands inside a diesel you will thanks us

On building up a 7.3L, I would also toss in a Map Fooler ($40). As well as a new compressor wheel for the turbo.

My set up in my 2000 7.3L is in my sig. If your building up an Auto, you might also want to spend some $$$ on some tranny mods. Gears might also get you on your way too...as will a rebuild/new LSD rear end.

If you want to blow that 6.0L out of the water, spend some $$$ on injectors as well. Then you'll kill that 6.0L and have it eat your soot.
