I just paid El Centro Ford $3,750.25 to put a remanufactured 4r100 tranny in my 2000 7.3L it comes with a 3 year 75,000 mile warranty. I blew it up in Glamis last weekend maybe some of the guys on this sight saw me on the side of the road. By the way I had 153,000 on the tranny. Had I not jumped a dune I might of gotten about 200,000 out of it.

You could have gotten a good performance trans for that much.

What makes a 6.0 morepowerfull than a 7.3

The displacement difference between the two is huge, what makes
a 6.0 morepowerfull is it boost, turbocharger, injectors, cams, crank, fuel pump, intake manifold, head design, compression, ecu, would like to know.my early 99 7.3 with 6 speed manual feels week compared to my 01 6.6 Duramax with the Allison Automatic. Mods so far are TP six position chip and 4" cold air intake, feels stronger at #4 setting and #5 setting feels like it's running out of diesel at 1/2 throttle.

TP Chip

TP Chip? Not sure about you but where im from TP is abbreviation for toilet paper. Is this a new chip? And what's a 4"intake, is that the size of the intake on your duramax? b/c my 7.3 intake is about twice that size. To sum it up you have a TP chip to whipe the duracrap off your powerstroke...hmm makes sense now.

If you want to go fast get a late 04 or 05 6.0l. You will spend thousands of dollars getting a 7.3l to keep up with a 6.0 that only has a good custom tune, and exhaust. The 5R110 in the 6.0 trucks is great, and in late 04 the head bolts where improved. I wouldnt take an 03 if it was given to me, but starting with a 7.3 you will be spending the 10k your saving on sticker price trying to keep up with a good 6.0l. Lots of great parts are starting to come out for the 6.0 right now. We have one manufacturer coming out with twins real soon, and they already have huge injectors being sold everyday. I have talked to some people last week that claim a 10 second 6.0l will happen this summer. In other words, all those parts you will need for a 7.3 to keep up with a 6.0 are coming available for the 6.0 NOW!

The 7.3 is a great motor, we have two of them, so dont be discouraged, But you asked whats faster.

Patrick

Good points, Somebody out there has got to have opened up a 6.0 and 7.3 for a comparison to see where the HP and Torque differences are coming from. Twins for the 6.0 and 10 sec times is impressive are we talking bolt on parts with a motor running modified internals or stock internals? On the drag racing and pulling scene which one is faster?

These new twins will be a bolt on kit. They will also have rod, cams, and other required parts.

The point I'm trying to make is, with a 7.3l your starting out 100 hp in the hole, and anything you can add to a 7.3 is available for the 6.0. So its kind of like chasing your tail.

Simple answer to this question.

Quote:
how much to make 99-03 7.3L as quick as a 6.0L
Any chip, with supporting mods.

Lets not forget that the quickest powerstroke is a 7.3
Which is also claiming to get into the 10 second bracket this summer

However disregarding initial truck price - it costs less to put a 6.0L PSD into the 400hp range then it does for a 7.3L PSD.

Sounds like that'll be a nasty one. I just hope A psd gets up between the durapoopy and the cummins so we're not on the bottom of the totem pole any more.

I think I need a smaller truck so I can go fast too, and if I were to do that, I'm thinking it would be a 6.0. seems they have too much going for them in that respect. But for what I do, I will stick with the 7.3. It's a work horse, and thats what I need right now.

Gord.
