A question about exhaust

I have a question about my exhaust....How can I tell if its a custom setup? What I mean is,do any of the companys stamp the pipes or anything.I haven't had my truck long and I only looked up under it breifly.I did notice the muffler and cat are gone, but I don't remember if it was a hack and weld job or looked clean.I drive a tow truck and when I get home it's usally late so I don't really get to mess with it much.I will be checking it out bumper to bumper thoroughly this weekend so I wanted to know what to look for(if anything). It obviously sounds diffrent from my buddies stock ones but I don't want to spend $600 on some stuff I already have,LOL. Don't flame me to bad,I'm new to Diesel performance and learning little by little as I go.Thanks for any advice you can add.

one thing i would check for is the diameter of the pipe, if its 3.5" its stock, anything over that is aftermarket, look at your downpipe from your turbo as well and see if it has unnecessary bends and kinks in it or if its relatively straight

Will do.Thanks. Also,if I do end up replacing it, will it hurt to go with 5" inch instead of 4"? The only mods (performance wise)I'm going to do to it are an air intake,dp chip, and exhaust. Will 5" be overkill?

you might notice slightly cooler egt's and a slightly deeper tone with 5" but nothing worth paying the extra money for, unless your going for a high hp application, which your not, so 4" will be plenty.

If your truck is a 03 7.3 like in your sig with an auto it didn't come with a cat from the factory.

stock exhaust is gonna be same size as the 03, 3.5", and you shouldnt have a cat either, easiest thing to do is get under the truck and look.
