What's your opnion?

I noticed last night that there is a bit of a growl coming from the tranny. Not good. It only does it in overdrive, when you give it fuel to go around a car or whatever. Still shifts fine, and I'm sure it will last for a while, BUT, I plan to hook it atleast 4 times this year at various pulls (Glenford, Knox Co. Fair, ect.) My question is this: What is the absolut best automatic out there that will hold a @$$ load of Tq/Hp. I know these are a little expensive, but I have until the end of June to save the money, and with what I make on overtime (keep buying them Super Duties boys!) money really isnt that big of a deal. Let me know what you have heard good or bad, or experience with. Thanks.

does it feel like the torque converter is engaging and disengaging....???? if it is, that is the weakest link in that trans and there are solutions to fix it.

Good question. This is my first truck with an auto in it, so I'm not sure. What should the lock up feel like?

the lock up feels like it is kinda "half" shifting. it is usually pretty un noticable except the rpm dropp off....and the same is true when it unlocks. if you are getting a feeling like it is constantly wanting to lock and unlock under cruise speeds....then that converter may be failing. usually the problem is most noticable when pulling a trailer....even a small one. that little bit of load will make the problem more pronounced.......i have only seen a handfull of truck that you could tell the converter was failing without a trailer atatched......im not sure if any of this actually applies to you...but if it does, i may have a solution....if not....then disregard what i said.......let me know.....Marc

Actually Marc, it still feels pretty solid, not really like it's trying to shift one way or the other. It's really only noticable when I give it fuel in OD, when it tries to lug before down shifting. Could this be what you are talking about, or is that just how they down shift?

boy, it is so tough to diag noises on here.....but this still almost sounds like it could be a converter issue.....but it could also be something else......

www.brianstruckshop.com

Warranty is for 2 years that I know for sure, but I also know trannys have been fixed at periods alot over that.

Maddog was running a BTS tranny behind an 800hp F350 with a cummins in it, and it never broke.

i know there was an independant guy back home in montana that was building 4r100's that were absolutely bullet proof....so if these guys are pointing you to someone doing the same commercially.....and if they are building the same kind of quality trans......they would be worth it for a truck that gets worked......Marc
