WW or turbo upgrade
K so i was talking to my diesel tech today and i told him that i was interested in installing a WW so that i can get rid of the surge noise out of my turbo... he told me not to do it because it would make no differance at all.. he told me to just save up the money and just buy a new turbo... told me about the high tech turbo's well i dont want to pay 1600 for a new turbo and was wondering if anyone has tried the WW and what they though about it... i am also conisdering adding a banks bighead waste gate.... or a ATS housing with a WW... any info you guys have would help a lot on my decision on what to buy.... the cheaper the better

I have the WW and yes it does make a difference. Little faster spool, no chatter and litttle louder (if you like that, which most of us do). The ATS ported housing will fix the chatter problem also, I don't have one maybe someone will pipe in that does. 1600+ just to fix the chatter prob is a little much. The WW is like $80.

I have an ATS Ported Housing and a WW. The difference over stock is completely out of this world. No comparison between stock vs my ATS/WW. I was in that dilemma myself and decided to just do it myself as I have rebuilt several turbos in my life and they are easy as pie. Getting them off the truck is the sorry beepbeepbeep part, well, the back exhaust clamp anyways. I had $85 in rebuild kit, $80 in the WW, and $420 in the ATS housing and about 4 hours of my time in the shop. Love the combination. |

The EBPV removal was easy. I found a thread hear that explained it. When I removed it, I had replaced the exhaust and intake at the same time so I dont know how much of a diff it made. But if you pull your down pipe off and look at it you'll understand why people remove it and it has to make a diff. you might as well shove a rag in your pipe it takes up that much space It has got to make a imrovment in flow. FYI, I only plugged one side and left the other side plug and retainer in. I tapped mine with a 1/2 NPT and it required no drilling. Then used a 1/2 pipe plug.
