I recenty purchased a 99 f350 7.3 CC LB 4x4 6sp. w/140000mi. It already came with a 4" turbo back Banks exhuast, which i am getting ready to muffler delete. And Banks Dynofact guages (EGT, Boost, Trans. Temp.)I am looking at getting the Hpyerpac and am finding alot of mixed reviews. Monly opinions though b/c all the performance seems to be very positive. I am an equipment operator so I carry a 105 gal "L" diesel tank and tool box along with a JOBOX, so i am carriny around 2000lbs at all times with me loaded with fuel and tools. then anything I may be towing, I have a 16ft box trailer I tow alot which weighted with my gear is a coulpe more ton.
I guess I am jsut looking for review I currently get around 17.5 mpg with my current setup. I like the computer screen and all, I dont make alot of short trips to where I would be resetting the powerlevels every hours, I travel alot. I get $1000 this Fri to spend on my truck, so I am gonna get a chip and extra CPS (since mine currently needs replaced, yeah ford) and Intake and the muffler delete pipe. Anyone familiar with the hyperpac and share details as to how it works with manual transmission, and how to change the programs, etc.. The reviews I read said shift on the fly, but I see things in posts on here that say no shift on the fly. Thanks for your help.

Dp Tuner Give Jody a call at DP tuners, he will tell you exactly what you need. And it's switch on the fly. I carry a 500ltr tank, and a bunch of tools around as well as pull around a 12000lb genset. I love the DP. |

I just installed the Hyperpac into my 2003 F350 Dually, 7.3 I have 60K on the truck and it is bone stock. I started with 4-5 dyno runs to see what the base truck will register. It was a fair 180HP and 280Trq average max. This might be off a bit since I did not know the actual weight of my truck before starting. This is an important part of the test acuracy I guess. No bother, I will take it to the scales this weekend. I was just looking for compare. Here is what I have learded so far: 1. Setup was easy. A few questions and up. 2. The 7.3 states you can adjust shift firmness, although I cannot find this option. It may be built in and I jsut cannot manually set it. Not sure why that would be, but I cannot find it. 3. Tuned to Stage 1. This was no different than stock. Ran 3 dyno runs and they where almost the same. The rear wheel HP came up a bit, but I did not notice any major difference. Again, bone stock other than the tuner. 4. I selected Stage 2. This was a HUGE jump in feeling, smoothness and torque. It woke my truck up! I was shocked at how good it felt. Much fast acceleration and snmoothness overall. It is loader, but sounds great and is not too much. That is all I have at this point. I do not feel comforatble in Stage 3 until I have an exhaust on the truck. I dont want to fry my turbo with the stock exhaust. Next steps are: 1. AFE stage 2 Cold Air Cleaner 2. Magna Flow 39005 Turbo Back exhast. 4" with pass thru muffler. I think the exhaust will be first. Then I can baseline, Stage 1,2 and 3 and give everyone the results. Next I will do the intake and follow the same path. Comment at this point: I might have just bought the hypertech tuner and not the actual Hyperpac. The screen is nice, but there are not that many features other than the Dyno and Dragstrip stuff. After checking these out, they are not perfect and based on G's and preassure I think. They are nice but for an extra $300? I am not sure its worth it. I wanted a Pyrometer as well and its a $350 add on. I could get the best gauges in town for that much and not have to lug around the Hyperpac. Will post next results as I get them. |

Thanks for the info, good to know. I agree with you on the gauges, as far as I am concerned I prefer the analog gauges for several reasons. #1 as far as I am concerned they are overall more accurate, I have read a few times people saying the digital gauges don't react fast enough on the EGTs and freeze up. #2If you have an electrical problem, software problem etc, you are without gauges until you get it fixed and shipped back, that could take weeks #3 It's a lot easier to steel the digital display, then a pillar pod with the gauges in it. Just my opinions of course. Gord. |

I found there was an incredible difference from the SCT Max Micro tuner to the DP when I changed over, It was like night and day. But I have no experience with the Hypertec stuff, so I can't give an opinion on it as compared to the DP. But custom tunes are bound to be a better bang for the buck as far as I'm concerned, and I really like the shift on the fly option, because I never Know what I will be doing from one minute to the next some days. Just a quick update on my progress. I have installed the MagnaFlow exhaust. Its a turbo back 3.5" downpipe growing to a 4" at the base. Much smoother and bigger than the Ford downpipe. It installed in about 3 hours. I did it alone without a lift. It was simple. Sound is a little loader, but not too much. I have not yet done any dyno runs with the Hyperpac to see if there is any difference. I will do this over the weekend and update what I have found. A few other items: 1. On tune Level 2 and running kinda hard for about 4 days, my gas milage dropped to a miserable 9.5 MPG from 13.5 MPG. I am now driving much more normal and will report if it changes with less throtle. I should expect it to be low I guess. (This gas mileage was before I installed the exhasut) 2. I have been trying to find the EGT module to plug into the Hyperpac for less then $350. No luck. Not sure why they have to price it so high. Almost seems price gauging a bit. If anyone nows of one for less, let me know. In general so far, the tuner has worked great. THe gauges are awesome and the truck seems to have a lot more power. I'll update as I learn more. |

Hey, thanks for the update rc, and by the way, WELCOME TO POWERSTROKE.ORG, hahaha a little late, but I didn't realize that was your first post. Glad your jumping in and getting involved, you should go introduce yourself to the rest of the crew in the intro forum, and don't forget to vote in the ROTM thread. Gord. |

Thanks for the welcome... Glad I can be here!
Ok.. Here is the update: After getting off the throttle and driving a bit more normal, my gas mileage returned to 13.5 MPG city and some light highway. This is prior to the AFE intake installation and with the tuner and exhaust on level 2. Well, the exhaust was on only for a small bit of this MPG check. Installed the exhaust. MagnaFlow stainless from the turbo back. I did it without a lift. It was not too hard. Took me 3 solid hours and I did it alone. This meant cutting more of the older stuff off than if it was up in the air. The hardest part of the install was getting the downpipe to line up with the turbo and getting the V clamp on it. After a little floor jack help and about 1 hour, it was on. The rest went pretty smooth. On nice feature of Magnaflow, was a pretty nice 5" tip already welded on the end. It looks great. Sound? Well it is louder. Not much though and it sounds kinda cool. This is only when getting on the gas. Highway, it was quiet as can be. I am very happy with the kit. As far as performance? I am not sure. The dyno was a bit jumpy and it did not seem to change much with the exhaust. I did feel better about running Level 3 without worrying about exhaust gas temps killing the turbo. With Level 3 and exhaust, the max horse the HyperPac stated was just over 300 with 500 FT pounds of torque. Anyone might argue this is not that much, but remember, I started with a baseline of 180 horse max and 280 LbFtT. This is a pretty nice gain if you ask me. Can I feel it? Oh yeah!! It spins all 4 rear tires now and snaps your neck right back. I also pulled out my 31Ft fifth wheel this weekend. I was running Level 3 with the exhaust and it pulled so smooth it was great. There was no effort by the truck at all getting up to 65 and it was silent at 65 and just moving easily right along. This weekend, I installed the AFE stage 2 cold air cleaner. Install was simple and the kit was great. Anyone should be able to install with not many tools. It is louder as well, although not too bad. You can hear the turbo hiss back at you during gear changes. I have run some small test dyno runs, but not to the exacting state I did before the intake was in. I have not seen much from the test results, but the truck feels even stronger. I also want to again retest the MPG and see if the better breather helps out. All in all, I am very happy. I have shelled out about $1600 (all items bought on eBay) and the truck is just so much stronger. It was worth it for sure. As I continue to gather more data, I will continue to update the post and let everyone know how it goes. |
