New to all of this, need some help

Hey guys...I'm driving a 2000 7.3 liter powerstroke, and I was wanting to know if there is any way to get it up to 350-400 hp at the wheels without black smoke, or with VERY LITTLE smoke...nothing against the smokers, its just not for me. And if it is possible, what do I need to do. Thanks a lot guys.

Yeah, I'm looking to keep everything as cool and as safe as possible too, seeing as how its my daily driver, how I make my money, and the only thing I really own right now.

Welcome to Powerstroke.org guys!
There are a bunch of ways to get power to the ground. Do you have any performance parts on it or are you completely stock right now?

A Superchips might make that much power...not sure on the 7.3 but it would be close...open your exhaust up and get some guages for boost and EGT and a superchips (mild tunner - won't smoke) and you should be happy with that power.

Oh and !!!

Thats a lot of power to get out of a 2000 7.3 unless you plan on doing some pretty pricey mods. And yeah, it will smoke

But the superchips is not a bad programmer if you dont have guages, but guages are always the first thing you should get. Are there guys out there running a Superchips 1705 without guages...sure there are, but would I do it, NO.

DIY intake
4 inch exaust
gauges
Custom chip,
Should get you to around 300hp to the ground, doesn't sound like a lot but it's quite a bit more than stock.

I'm completely stock right now, and looking to make any changes necessary, except for a new truck of course.

Stock you probably put about 180hp to the ground. Maybe less. 300 hp at teh ground is a lot of power, and it should be pretty usable. My dads truck -

Edge Juice/evo stacked
4" exhaust
Amsoil/Donaldson air induction kit
Banks Trans Command

6" lift on 35's

He gets some smoke, mostly only when he wants to. truck runs smooth, has plenty of power and no egt issues.

I have heard people talk about better turbo spoolup with upgraded intercoolers, and there are always turbo upgrades. Smoke is going to come from a slow spooling turbo fed a decent amount of fuel. To eliminate smoke you have to soften the fueling (very easy to do on the juice) and make teh turbo spool up quicker.

So if I were to upgrade fuel with a tuner, then add intake, exhaust, intercooler and turbo upgrade...I'd be looking at very little smoke?
P.S. I was looking at the Banks Powerpack to start off with...would this be a good choice?
