dIY intake

I'm going to do a dIY intake, I odered the filter from napa. Just bought a 4" PVC repair coupling its 4" OD and 3" long I think it will be OK, anyone see any problem with using PVC. If so let me know.

I've only HEARD people say underhood temps can potentially soften the tubing and allow it to deform. This would let dirt in... however I used exhaust pipe so I can't tell you from experience.

I bought the AFE torque tube. That replaces the rubber hose to the compressor housing on the turbo and its plastic. I think you probobly would be okay use some schedule 80 pipe if you can find it

If you have a big-rig diesel shop that does exhaust repairs or a truck performance shop locally you should be able to pick up a short piece of scrap 4" exhaust for little or nothing which would hold up much better than PVC and will look much better under the hood.

I got a nice CHROME piece from the big rig shop, the guy even cut it 2x's (Measure twice, cut twice lol) for me for free... he said "take care" and show me when you're done!

I'm going to try it and see how it works. Its a pvc coupling not pvc pipe so its a bit thicker. Steel pipe might rust and cause problems.

Yeah the corrosion issue was a factor for me, because I live in salt county. I also decided to buy the torque tube , because if I didnt like the tymar I would buy the AFE stage 1, and would already have the tube to go with it. I like the tymar though, and you don't have to clean it or oil it. Yeah schedule 80 pipe is the thickest pvc you can buy that I know of. Good luck I think you will be satisfied with the tymar

Oh and I see you said you ordered from Nappa. I was going to order mine from Nappa also but was quoted 45 bucks. I ordered from this placeFleetFilter.comfor 32 bucks shipped to Michigan. Might be worth looking into for your next filter change
