Exhaust and Intake help

i have a 99 f-350 and want to put on an intake because i heard the 99 intakes are horrible. is this true? also i want to put an exhaust on it. i want at least a 4 " exhaust but dont know if their is a big difference between the aluminum or stainless. also is it better to run straight or leave the muffler on? without the muffler would there be enough backpressure?

The early 99 intake boxes weren't sealed very well. Exhaust you want 4" tb it doesn't matter if you use the muffler or not and you want T409 ss since aluminized is made of lesser quality material then your stock exhaust!

Check the Tech Files for further info!

I would agree with the upgraded intake. I put a straight pipe 5" on my 2000, never had any troubles out of it. The people that should be more concerned with the type of steel, are the ones that are in colder places, that get snow and ice and where they use a lot of salt on the road. Then I would def say go for the 409. But, if you are in south flordia or somewhere like that, I dont think it is as big of a deal. But that is just me and my opinion, and you know what they say about those. After that, if you plan on doing bigger power, get your guages first, then a chip, and you will be set to really start spending some cash

Yeah if you live in an area that uses salt on the roads in the winter, then you want the 409 SS exhaust, otherwise the Alum. will do just fine. Personally I say go for the 4" over the 5" cause simply it is more economical, don't get me wrong a 5" sewer pipe and a 6" tip look really cool but are expensive and you will lose a little low end torque cause of eddies in the exhaust unless you add a good amount more fuel.

The Ford AIS are really nice intakes, they are pretty much the same intake thats on the 6ers, flow is good and filtration is good. Might be something to look at. Alot of them are good, just DO NOT GET A K&N!!!

I think i am going with the DIY intake. I need something cheap. I have already cleaned the air box and tubing about 4 months ago and is already dirty again. the stock intake is getting removed. Maintain... where can you find the 4" exhaust pipe at. I went to a couple auto part places and they do not have any. I dont even know where to find a small piece. Other than that i ordered a filter from NAPA. Thanks for the info gentlemen.
