ATS Ported Compressor Housing (who has one)
I was going to just order a new BallBuster Turbo but decided to try the ATS Housing first. I have it on it's way now, but for those of you that have one, how do you like it and how does it perform. This truck has the TS chip, cold air intake, 4" turbo back Banks exhaust and full guages. Will I notice anything other than the surge being gone? What about turbo whistle, will it sing better? ATS advised against a WW or Banks wheel and said it actually performed better with the factory wheel. Is it true?
Thanks for the input guys, |

I have had both the WW and ATS housing installed for a while now. They work well together but I think I will re-install the stock wheel because of the extremely loud whistle. it whistles all the time - even at 2 psi of boost!. have not towed yet but I imagine it will be even worse under load. the truck certainly performs better with the ATS. (no surge at all) better off the line, better passing at highway speeds, better spool up. if the stock wheel pushes more air, I'll be even happier! from what I've heard, you don't need an aftermarket turbo ($$$) unless you are going with aftermarket injectors. you simply cannot push enough with stock injectors to justify a "more huge-er" turbo. at least that's my understanding....

it cured the surge for me all the way through. perhaps a bit better spool-up too. also created a high-pitched whistle under load. sounded like my truck was ready for lift-off. did not help EGT's at all. I recommend it for surge control as long as you don't mind the whistle.

Hey Fellas, sorry if this is a hijack, but I wanna ask this if I can. I have the WW sitting in my shop ,ready to install. My question is this after reading about the airflow. Disregard the whistle issue, will the wicked wheel give less performance than the stock wheel? I really dont care one way or the other about the whistle. I currently have no surge with the stock wheel, and I certainly dont want to install the WW if it pushes less air(less boost) than stock. Sorry so long but I want to understand this more . Thanks!
