Turbo?
I don't think I've ever seen this question and I couldn't find anything searching, I know our factory thrust bearing turbo kinda sucks when you want to push higher power levels, compressor wheels and housing upgrades asside. I know Garrett has a ball bearing "drop in" replacement, and that the H2E is also available for guys who really want the power.
My question is, has anyone ever "retrofitted" a 6.0 turbo on a 7.3? Putting asside everything that would be involved in doing this, would there be any benefits versus the other aftermarket turbos available for our 7.3s? I read something that the 6.0s have a Variable Geometry Turbo, not really sure what that means, but I know the 6.0s whistle has a lot more ear piercing sound than the 7.3. I also know the 6.0s have more boost (factory) than 7.3s. I assume Garrett is still the turbo mfg. for the 6.0s. |

There are a couple of guys in SOCAL area that have done it (6L turbo on a 7.3). I think its something like vanaakenbrothersracing.<-dont quote me on that contact there though, its something close to that. Not too many guys are interested though cause the 6L turbo isn't too much more efficient than the 7.3 turbo, especially for all the money put into fabbing just to get one on the 7.3 in the first place. Turbonetics, or Garret BB seem to be better options. JMHO

variable geometry turbos adjust their internal size one way or another. it basically gives you a small turbo for low speed/low rpm for faster spool and higher boost, and a big turbo once the engine can support it.
