Transmission swap
Hey I posted this question earlier but the title of the thread was poorly written and misleading, anyways do you fine people think it is possible for someone to swap out the 4R100 in a 2000 f350 and put in either a 5R110 (torqshift) or an Allison 1000 transmission? I am inclined to think that the 5R110 would fit the best since the body is similar from the 1999-2003 and the 2003.5-2004 but I really don't know if they are the same.....I know destroked.com makes an Allison to 7.3 powerstroke adapter, but I don't know how it would fit underneath a ford.....I was just wondering if it is possible since I have found some rebuilt Allison 1000s with TC and all for pretty decent prices and having that extra gear on the highway would be nice....thanks again folks.

I'm not really certain, the extra overdrive will be the weak link but a built 4r100 w/ one would certainly be stronger then a swapped ally or tqshift... Go for it |

From what I hear the gear vendor overdrives don't like to hold up to the power and torque these engines make so I think I'd recomend staying away from them. I'm not sure what the torqueshift is like in comparasin to the 4R100 but from what I understand they are similar with the esception of an additional gear. I'd stay completely away from an allison. Especially one that came from a Chev. It may have the Allison name stamped on it but Chevy had them pull so much crap out of it to make it "affordable" that it's no where near as tough as the name's reputation. Not to mention with the rpm range we have we really don't need that many gears. With the TC locking and unlocking in 2nd and 3rd gear the 4R100 is more like a 6 speed. Not to mention if you just have your 4R100 built it will save you a TON of hassle in trying to make the PCM and tranny talk. Also when talking to Brian at BTS he was telling me a little about the E4OD/4R100 vs the Allison and he was saying the way the Ford trannys are built and the way they shift they are a whole lot better than the Allisons anyway. |
