Programmer/Transmission question

I hate to start another thread about programmers/chips because theyre everywhere, but I did a search and couldnt find exactly what im looking for. I have a 2000 F350 with an automatic transmission. From what ive heard its best to run custom tunes with trucks with an AT so it doesnt slam gears - is this true? Ive heard good things about PHP chips, but are they custom tunes? Any other suggestions of what direction I should head in?

Thanks

Aparently you didnt search hard enough because there are multiple threads that answer both questions. Yes running custom tunes is better compaired to "canned" tunes, Php is does make custom tunes for your truck you tell them the mods, pcm code, year, tire size etc.. and they write the tunes, all they currently have is the hydra since they discontinued the 6pos phionex chip but there are a few place that might still have them. The hydra is defantly worth looking into, if i had the extra cash id bought that instead being you can put 17 tunes from who ever you want onto it from your computer and not have to send it back to have them burn it.

I guess I didnt use the right keywords? Anyway, thats besides the point. I appreciate the help, just looking for a little wake up call for my bone stock motor, Ive only had the truck less than a month so I know little to none about the PSD. $375 for the hydra seems like a good deal. Does the $375 include the 17 tunes? Do they just send you files to your computer and you flash them? Is this an on-the-go type deal where you push a button and it instantly changes tunes? Will this sacrifice any longevity on a stock motor?

Thanks

Go with any of the big name tuners and then order a John Wood valve body , transmission issues will be solved with it.

Sold 01 350 6" on 37's and mild mods, 00 X 4" on 35's, 02 f350 4" 35's molded from fan to drive shaft, ridin the 03 with nose conversion with 125k and counting upwards slowly.
Never had CNC on any of it, never will.
Take 3/4 of the info and recommendations on here with a grain of salt

The "stock" php files are much better than the ts canned tunes. With just basic intake, exhaust and chip all you need is the stock tunes. That's what I have on my php Phoenix chip, which is now discontinued and they work great.

01 f250CCSB, 285/75/16 GY duratracs, 4 inch diamond eye straight pipe, riff raff 6637, php Phoenix chip, tru-cool, riffraff billet wheel, isspro EGT gauge and torque app.
