Early 99 edge

Hey guys, just got an early 99 with a 6 speed, all stock minus cold air and straight pipe. It the only psd I've owned other than my obs. I know a custom tuned chip is preferred but I found an edge juice with attitude for 250. My only future planned mod is appearance. How will the edge do? Plus I believe it'll read my boost and egts.

Being your a 6 speed and not a auto you should be fine but i have also heard plenty of bad about the edge juice. Defantly good for gauges none the less. Id play it safe and save another 200 and buy the hydra.

since your a manual your better off.
edge trans tuning sucks, superchips has better trans tuning but once again your a 6 speed.

i would just wait and get a custom tuned chip. ive ran edge and superchips, php tunes are so much more powerful with lower egts.

Only thing I've ever run was canned ts tunes in an obs. Since my trucks all stock would custom tunes be worth the extra $ over canned?

I had a Superchips in my truck when i bought it.

With my experience when i switched over to a PHP chip i did not notice "more" power. I noticed a smoother throttle, beter MPG and lower EGT's all the wile still producing as much power as the superchips.

With our Injectors a tuner can only produce X amount of power. No company out there can build more power then our injectors will allow. With that said, if you were to dyno PHP vs Swamps vs Gearhead vs edge vs superchips, they MAY all produce the exact same amount of power but how the power is delivered will be different between each company. Fuel curve, timing, air ratio will all be different between each tuner along with other things.

My superchips throttle was touchy and had high EGT's but good power.

PHP tunes ease into the power nice and smooth and my EGT's are 200 degrees lower.

I think your question of "is it worth it" is really up to how you are going to use your truck. If your going to tow a lot i would get custom tunes for the sole purpose of lower EGT's. If its a grocery getter and dump runner then you wont see much benefit to custom tunes.

Just my opinion. Good luck though with whatever you decide.

I tow maybe once a month. But I work 4 hours from home so it's a commuter truck. Just make the trip 1 time a week. I'm thinking a tuner will give me what I'm wanting at least for a while. Once I decide(if I do) to go bigger o b performance I'll do a custom chip.
