Lowering EGTs

My coworker has a late 99 6speed truck that is stock besides a standard ts 6 position chip. He has an EGT gauge. He is thinking that a 6.0 intercooler will help lower EGTs significantly. Is this true? My suggestions were to remove stock muffler or 4 inch turbo back and 6637 intake first. Then wicked wheel and ebpv if still having issues. He is using the 75 horse tune when towing and hitting 1300 occasionally which isn't that terrible for short amounts of time, but wondering what he can do to lower them.
I also told him to downshift and get the rpms/boost up and that will help. Let me know if I'm off here.

IMO you are right on the money. Get that heat out as fast as possible. Take the simple cheap steps first, probably cost him like 100 bucks if that to get the 6637 in there and the delete pipe on.

The 6.0 cooler is a minor upgrade at best.
It doesn't sound like he has that big of issues though. An intake and exhaust would go a long way for him

Holley fuel pump, in tank mods, crappy riding leveling kit, DP-F6, 5 Gauges+Edge CS in dash, CB radio in Dash, over 100 goofy little mods
Still pretty slow, just less slow now.

intake/exhaust first.
a billet compressor wheel will probably lower them another 75-100 degrees.

if he still has issues do an ebpv delete.

i barely ever look at the egt gauge anymore. ever.
i can go 0-95 WOT and it barely creeps to 1250.

a 6.0 intercooler maybe lowers them another 50 degrees. negligible gain for what you spend.

Yup... 6.0 IC is a waste of effort.

Thanks guys. I'll tell him to save his money with the intercooler and start with the basic intake/exhaust mods.

Exhaust Back Pressure valve...

Not a fan of deleting it, no big gains to be made, and it makes a dandy exhaust brake.

definately not a huge upgrade on a stock truck. most get rid of it to get rid of a leak at the pedestal.

What kind of boost is he seeing? Also, how much weight is he towing when seeing that EGT?
