Gearhead tuner & high idle/cruise issue

hello all,

i have a 99 6 spd with 238/80 hybrids from unlimited and gearhead tunes to make it run. when matt did my tunes, i asked him to include an automatic high idle while below a certain engine temp which he did.

the issue i am having is the high idle doesn't seem to always be working. at first i thought it was a bad connection between the pcm and tuner, but i have now convinced myself it has something to do with the clutch switch. it seems that when the automatic high idle is working, the cruise control does not work. however, when the high idle does not work, the cruise seems to work fine.

i am pretty sure there is a two stage switch on the clutch pedal. one stage is engaged when pushed all the way, which is for the neutral safety starting circuit. the other is when the clutch is near all the way up. this is the one that kicks off the cruise when you start to push in the clutch. when the high idle is working, this one also kicks it out when you jump in and start to push in the clutch.

i replaced this switch and nothing changed, still intermittent problems. the thing that doesn't make sense to me is why one works while the other doesn't. it seems to me like they (cc and fast idle) would either both work or neither work.

can anyone shed some light on this subject? it's not keeping it from driving or anything, i just like things to work like they're supposed to.

all help is appreciated.

yes it worked fine for three or four months after i put it all together.

when the problem started, i always thought it was a pcm/tuner connection problem as i had some trouble with this when i first installed the tuner (it actually died and left me stranded one time). after this, every time the high idle would quit working, i would pull the pcm, take the tuner off, look things over good, and reseat the tuner and put everything back together. this always solved it, sometimes for a day and sometimes for a week.

the more i think about it, i'm betting it is still a problem with the tuner connection to the pcm. the thing is, i don't know what else to try. i've tried two different pcm's, retinned them both with solder, and reseated the tuner a hundred times.

i did have matt send me another tuner to try and i haven't tried it yet because i was convinced that wasn't the problem. maybe i need to go ahead and try the new tuner.

Haha took me 4 times to pull the PCM and clean those connections! It finally worked, get a really bright flashlight and look at it from the side and there's tons of little pieces and blow it all out
