Atleast with the engine oil temp you could see what your oil temp is going through the turbo before shutting down. I see no reason for a diff guage as you can not cool it anyway so why watch it.

What is the normal operating temp of a 7.3L? what is the max you would want to see on the guage, as far as oil temp goes....

The max would depend on the type of oil. Conventional oil max is like 300 and synthetic is 400 I think. The oil temp is going to be slightly higher than the water temp. I think a normal temp is going to be about 240 for the oil. That is if you are running high rpm or pulling. I remember reading that the oil in a turbo can get up to like 450 when running hard and it goes up when you shut down the motor because the oil is no longer circulating. That is why they say not to shut down until the oil temp has dropped some so you don't mess up the bearings. That is another reason an extra aftermarket heavy duty oil cooler is a great idea. Hope this helps and if anyone finds an error in this please correct me. This is just from personal experiences with a 5.0 motor and a drag strip.

I think I am set on an engine oil temp gauge. However, I still need to know a temp range, best location so on and so forth.

I want Autometer Sport Comp.

They have more than one option, I am thinking about the one ranging from 140-340. I'm not sure if they make much higher. Any help would be greatly appreicated. Best price I can find is on ebay for $39 no matter the option.

Thanks guys!!!!

I have done some looking and could not find any brand that went higher than 340. Honestly the 100-340 guage should be fine. You should not really see it go higher than that and if it does then it needs to idle awhile or take foot off gas pedal for awhile.
