Air filter chatter

I got a buddy that just put a AFE stage 2 intake on his 02 7.3 powerstroke and at certain rpm's it has a chatter is that natural or do we have a problem

It sounds like you have the very common problem with an on throttle turbo surge. The compressor wheel is actually mis matched to the turbo housing in that application. There is a fairly inexpensive fix for it. There is a replacement compressor wheel for inside the turbo that corrects the problem. You can go with that or you can replace it with a new performance turbo. The wheel is going to be under $100. PM me for pricing.
