how to reduce my disappearing act???

Hello, well this is my first time to join a forum, and this looks to be the best for me. Since I am a PSD owner. I own a 2001 f250 cc4x4 white lariet. This is my 3rd PSD, previously had 95 f450 flatbed, and 96 f250 ext.cab. no longer have either. HAD to upgrade! I bought my new truck in june of 13. The previous owner really didnt know anything about the truck. So it was up to me for a good inspection before purchase. Well the goodies are an afe intake, 4" turboback straight exhaust, 38r, a 6 position chip, idk about injectors, gages, upgraded tailgate, billet grill with 2013 oval. My concern is as I turn up the chip to the higher power levels my disappearing act gets better and better. I know that I need more airflow to clean up the smoke, but how to go about doing this? Is the 38r upgradeable? Do i need a different chip? I like the versatility of choosing what stage I want the chip to be set. any help would be greatly appreciated, and sorry for the lengthy post!!!

I think you're looking for a way to reduce how much your truck smokes? Is this correct?

What kind of chip do you have? That 38r should be plenty to clean up stock injectors, assuming all is well with the turbo. (this is what your gauges are useful for).

Tunes could definitely help with your smoke but you need to figure out if the injectors are stock or not. If they're aftermarket, it's going to take some work to figure out what specs and brand they are.

Assuming all is well with the truck, I think it's a safe assumption to say that you're either running canned tunes or aftermarket injectors. That is, if your truck smokes as much as you imply it does

Yes smoke smoke smoke!!! Even at highway speeds.Unused power out the tailpipe. Should the injectors be easily id with cover removal? And as far as the chip all I know is it has 6pos. Black knob and I see a wire going to pcm. The turbo appears good boost gage reads 30+ gage is alittle herky jerky need a new one.

Do you have gauges?

What boost levels are you seeing?

My first thought would be boost or drive pressure leaks...

Are you sure you have a 38R turbo?

Boost 30+ it is a garret 38r verified by a turbo reman. Shop. And it is loud! Lol! I think it does have injectors just dont know what size. As it does smoke even with 38r. And on the highest setting of the chip at about 60 to 75% throttle it changes the sound of the clatter, it gets considerably louder and more smoke. Regardless of rpm

Is this a characteristic of canned tunes? It is like it changes the injection timing, a very crisp change

Check fuel pressure, ICP pressures, Duty cycle...

Without knowing what injectors are on it, the only thing you can do is pull them and have them flowed.

If you remove the chip does it run clean?

What kind of EGT's are you seeing on a WOT run from 0-60? At cruise what are your EGT's?

Turn the chip to stock and it burns clean
dont know about fuel pressure or ip
cruising egt's are like 6-7
never checked 0-60 egt's
and is it legit to have one injector flowed just to determine the rate, or better to do the whole set

if all checks out healthy (and after finding out what inj's) and still smokes there is a WW2 for the 38r that will help it spool more/better...but I'd get a better guage and check stuff out better before doing more "mods" along with having the chip re-burnt so you know what you have (have to know inj size for this)
