Should I buy this garrett?
I have an opportunity to grab a GTP38R for real cheap but the catch is that it's used. It has 55k on it but I have yet to recieve pics and information on it. The price tag is only $350!
I hear there are different builds on the turbos and what not? Is there any difference between them? Also if I bought this turbo, I'd probably buy the 1.15 AR housing cause I hear it's the best. I know these turbos aren't necessarily rebuildable but this is a heck of a deal. Should I jump on it? Also I might be picking up an Spearco IC retrofit for the 6.0 and think I have to reroute my trans cooler. Does anyone have any info for that? Anything is appreciated, thanks. Leon. |

For 350 i would be curious as to whats wrong with it. But you should be able to have it rebuilt

depends its right around 5-600 to have it done IIRC less if you do it yourself

i would deffinately grab that turbo if there no shaft play and the compressors are fine then again i'd still grab it to jus rebuild it it'll be cheap than brand new depending how much a rebuild costs

Thanks for the site, but isn't that the rebuild kit for the GTP38? Not the GTP38R?
I hear they cost alot to rebuild but was wondering how much and if I am able to do it myself. |

There is a dude on Ebay that sells rebuild kits for around $100, not cheap import crap, he has owned his own turbo shop for 20+ years and he says the Garrett's are one of the easiest to rebuild???? I would make sure there is no contact of fan to housing.
