To chip or not to chip?

Im new to the forum, so to begin with, hello to all. I have a bone stock 02 2WD F250 with the 7.3 that has been totally reliable. Ive heard about performance chips and I finally have one ordered from TW. Ive read through many different entries in the forum about problems with chips for this and for that and it makes me more than a little antsy. Now, my question is, Im leaving on vacation towing my toyhauler in a couple of weeks which wont give me much time on the chip before I leave. Should I put the chip in or not? I would appreciate some input.

I just tuned my 6.0 with SCT and love it. I don't ever wana go back. I don't know how hard it is to install chips on 7.3's but I bet you will love to drive more even with all the toys in tow just to show every one what you got under the hood.

Welcome.....I have an 05 CC fx4 with the 6.0. I just put in an AEM brute force air intake and I bought the old style Superchips programmer on Ebay. I was getting 14mpg before and I am getting 17mpg now. (as long as I keep my foot out of it). I have a alot more power. I still get around 15-16mpg pulling a 2 horse trailer. Hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks for the responses, I do have a trans temp gauge, wasnt planning on others as the chip I ordered was pretty mild, (stock, economy, light tow, heavy tow, and high idle), and my trailer is small, about 5000# loaded. (probably a little less) The truck handles the trailer great in stock configuration, was installing chip for a little more mileage more than anything else.
