Exclamation D66 blown AGAIN!

Well I pulled off my intake tube to inspect my turbo just to make sure there wasn't any shaft play because I had heard some very faint scraping sounds coming from the the turbo when at idle and when I would shut the truck off. Sure enough the turbo has some serious in and out play and the wheel is scraping the housing. Keep in mind that Bean's rebuilt the turbo like 5 months ago and now it's junk again. These journal bearings simply won't last for some reason, and i'm not even hard on the truck and it only makes 32 psi so I don't know what it's going to take to make the D66 last on my rig. I'll be calling Bean first hing monday morning.

Just sharing my experiences with the D66.

I think it's time to go to a different turbo. H2E comes to mind.

Wow. Thats answers my issue im having I think. My stock turbo is making a slight scraping noise under boost.

anyways. I think that if the turbo keeps going out you should upgrade to a differant one. But then again Im still new to the diesel world. I wouldn't fix it. Id replace it.

God I hope so. If all else fails I might spend the $$ to update my pipes and pedistal and Y pipe and bolt on a TN bb unit. I gotta talk to Bean first though.

Dang Jake, I hope Bean takes care of it. After all, he did rebuild it with new parts at your cost so the warranty should be good for another year from that date. At least that is how I think.

It's not so much that it's a journal bearing turbo but that it's just a modified stock turbo. When the stock turbos don't hold up to abuse over 30psi or so a wheel change might help move some more air at lower shaft speeds but if you overspool it it's still going to go. I've heard of a handfull of these cases.

If you are referring to "update" as installing the late '99-'03 parts I wouldn't waste your money. That's more like a side step than an update. If you are spending the money just get a better turbo set up all together like an H2E set up. The set up allows for many more turbos to work on your truck so that you can upgrade later and unless you can find the drop in turbo and all the uppipes etc. used for really cheap you can probably get the H2E set up for cheaper.
