Garret turbo

Hey guys i just bought a 99 7.3. I was looking at the turbo and it says garret on the side. Does that mean it was upgraded to the gp38r? Did this come stock or was it done by previous owner

All turbos say that on the side. The only way to tell is if it has the bigger intake connected to the turbo. If it is silicon and says "Turbo by Garret" then you've got a 38r, otherwise its just stock.

Stock turbo on the 7.3 is a Garrett TP38...

As was said above, if it has a 3" intake, then its a stocker.
