PHP Hydra No-start

Hey all, I just got my PHP hydra to install into the truck. Read the PCM code from the computer (VDH3), reccommended tunes to use are TNAA4S2. Loaded my tunes while the chip was out of the truck. Installed per you-tube video.

Problem is, my CEL does not EVER go off while the Hydra is attached to the PCM. Unplug the Hydra and everything starts up just fine? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Only thing that could interfere, and even then I'm not so sure is that I have an Edge Insight CTS plugged in through the OBDII port.

PHP's forums are down, so I cannot trouble shoot there. I've also got a 200 mile drive home tonight and I'd like to make sure everything is in order. Thanks in advance!

Make sure the contacts are really clean. When I first put mine in it would not start on the stock tune I loaded nor the whisper setting. I changed to 40 tow and it started just fine. The biggest problem I have seen has been the contacts in the PCM were not cleaned well enough. If it will not start in the 00 setting then it most likely the contacts.

Most of the time with a "no start" is poor contact between the chip and pcm. Clean it very well but do not get too aggressive and get down to the copper.

Check the contacts. Check to insure after picking the tunes that you actually loaded them...

Thanks guys, I am almost certain the contacts are clean, went through with a toothpick and some electronic cleaner before I finished putting it in. Still have the issue, but I believe it is my ribbon cable or possibly the switch itself. When plugged into the truck, the switch will "swirl" the LCD readout.

When I remove the chip and plut it into the computer everything comes up fine on the HydraFlash, shows I have my tunes loaded and everything is ready to go. If I plug it in with the switch/ribbon cable attached, it goes into "Hydra Chip Boot Mode - Special Recover Mode for Hydra Chip" and the screen goes bright red.

As a quick test to my theory, I plugged the chip in with no switch and everything started and the truck ran fine. I am assuming that the chip will then just stay loaded on the 00 setting if no switch is attached.

I sent an email to PHP explaining the situation and we will see what they have to say about it, Hopefully they have seen this before and I'm just doing something wrong.

Thanks again for the tips!

hey Joe!!

So I answered back to your first email before I saw your link to this page.

You can always contact me on here via PM.. it will come straight through to my cell phone and I can usually get back to you within one or two hours.

As I mentioned in the email and they mentioned above, this sounds like a contact issue.

If you can have your truck down for a few days, you are welcome to send your PCM into the shop where I will clean, solder, and attach your chip for you. We do this for no charge as long as you will include a return shipping label

Also, if you will shoot me your phone number.. there is a couple things i would like to check out in reference to the boot mode that your hydra flash is going into

thank you
Jay
