Superchips Flashpaq 1840 Good Idea?

When towing our 10,000# travel trailer up miles long steep grades in Col and Ariz my F350 dually 7.3 is doggy, and I am thinking the 60hp and a tad more torque this tuner offers is all I need. I only have about 100k on the truck and would like to keep it a long time, so the last thing I want is to stress it. Think old guy who sent thrill driving to the junk yard with the two motorcycles he crashed.

I have a transmission gauge but no EGT gauge. If I keep the revs up around 2500 and don't push it as hard as it will go I'm probably okay without one but will buy one if you all think it's necessary.

What do you think of this tuner? I've never had one and don't want to spend the money if it really won't help or might shorten the life of the engine.

Only mods are a Ford/Donaldson AIS, 6.0 cooler and a Pacbrake that stops me from changing the stock exhaust. I wish I had done that before installing the Pacbrake.

If you're not getting a smoking deal on it, php tunes are to be had for 300 on a six position switch. Would be better than the superchips. Php Phoenix chip or hydra.

01 f250CCSB, 285/75/16 GY duratracs, 4 inch diamond eye straight pipe, riff raff 6637, php Phoenix chip, tru-cool, riffraff billet wheel, isspro EGT gauge and torque app.

i sure an exhaust shop can make you a nice system. gonna be more epxensive but it can be done.

id get a php phoenix as well. best 300 bucks you can spend on the truck

oh and if you want to run a chip, egt gauge us a must.

I hadn't heard of the PHP folks. The product looks good and I read the installation instructions. They're very clear.

Don't know why I even questioned needing the egt gauge. Thanks all of you.

PHP does have pretty good tunes, but customer service can sometimes be lacking if you ever have any issues. I have a PHP chip and Gearhead and I really like the transmission characteristics of the Gearhead. Customer service is great too. Swamps, Beans, TW also are very good from what I hear.

Superchips will do just fine for what you want. Just be sure to get an EGT gauge.

I was hoping someone would say that. I'm too old to stand on my head trying to loosen that bolt under the hood. And I'm not wanting to let someone else work with the PCM. I've already had electrical problems because of carelessness. I have a neighbor with the identical truck who had a Bullydog and now an Edge product. He likes the Edge. I need to look harder at their product. But if I learn more about the Superchips product and don't find problems, that is where I'm leaning.

Regardless of what tuner/chip you go with proper gauges is a good idea I would get a boost and EGT gauge just to keep an eye on things.
