Exhaust Sound

Ok I've seen a bunch of guys with 4" and 5" exhaust with either 5" or 6" tips. Some of them still have that baffled sound you get with a stock straight pipe while others have an exhaust that sounds like a jet engine. What causes either sound?

Not sure of the specific thermodynamic reason as to why one sounds like a jet and the other baffled.

However a 4" system straight piped or with a muffler is usually more tame then a 5" system.

Is there a specific sound you're looking for?

Straight piping usually sounds like a jet, you have a muffler on it, you have that "products" sound...

So would you get a real loud, deep sound with a 5" straight pipe exhaust that gives off that jet sound?
