D66 vs 38r

What are y'all's thoughts on the d66 vs the 38r? Just want some input from people who actually have some experience with both or one or the other. I am putting together my list of mods to do this summer and just want some input.
So far my take on is the d66 flows 1050 cfm and the 38r 1150cfm, so only a 100 cfm difference. I plan on getting stg 2 single shots, t500 and turbo with either php or TW tunes. Looking for right around 400hp in the end but still a good dependable dd. is this possible?


E99 F350 Ext. cab Long bed, single wheel 2x4

Dieselsite boostfooler, factory tech valvebody, filter system,
Local custom trans build - BTS in near future,
Derale cooling pan and trans cooler,
Mbrp 4" turbo back
Ts 6 pos chip - TW tunes coming soon,
Guzzles hutch and harpoon mod with lift pump and racor filters
Ww2
Blank pedestal with moded exhaust port
Afe rear end cover
Callahan drilled and slotted rotors front and rear

Pretty comparable. They both with spool fast, 38r maybe a little faster, but they are annoying in cab. and yes its possible to have a reliable 400hp dd. I'm at ~600hp and my truck see dd duty without failures, its all about how its built.

On edit, a better number to look at is lbs/min rather than cfm. I've seen a lot of turbos flow enough for big injectors and be rated at 1050cfm yet they flow 106lbs/min where the 38r is something in the 70s in lbs/min. Overall either will be a good choice, deciding factor for me would be noise if its a dd.

Sold 2001 f250 ccsb 4x4 400/400, dual terminators, swamps 80mm bfh, headers, bts and all the usual supporting mods. 715hp fuel only.

i think their was thread saying that the 38r is quieter with the ww2.
im not sure which one it was.

Is the d66 a loud turbo? I have oem now with ww2 and it can be loud and annoying at times.

I don't think my d66 is unreasonably loud...

To save money a D66 will be just fine. If not. It'll be quite a bit more to go with a 38R unless you can get your hands on some L99-03 junk yard parts to save money.
